90-day Appeal Period for Preliminary Flood Maps In The Works

A year after the release of the preliminary flood maps, Emerald Isle is close to receiving the required Federal Statutory 90-day appeal period start date.  It appears at this time based on correspondence from FEMA and the NC Flood Mapping Program, the 90-day appeal period should start between July 30 – August 15, 2017.  Once the date is finalized, the Town will make this date public.  It is important that if you own property in Emerald Isle and wish to appeal the preliminary maps it is done within this 90 day time-frame. This is your opportunity as a property owner to submit petitions for comments, appeals and data to challenge the preliminary flood risk mapping. View Appeals and Comment Factsheet developed by FEMA. Please contact Town Planner, Josh Edmondson if you have questions or need assistance with this process.
