Important Mosquito Information from our Public Works Department

All around us Spring has sprung…folks are getting outside and cleaning up the patio furniture, pollen is everywhere, traffic is picking up and you can bet that the mosquitoes won’t be far behind. It’s the time of year that we like to remind folks to “Tip and Toss”. If you have anything in your yard that holds water, buckets, planter trays, etc. we ask that you tip them over and if there is litter around we ask that you toss that in the trash and dispose of it. Mosquitoes will hatch out of a bottle cap if there is water in it. So when we say anything we do mean ANYTHING. There is more mosquito information available on the Public Works page.

Again this year we have mosquito larvacide available for residents of Emerald Isle at the Public Works facility located behind the main Fire Station. Please call before coming by to ensure that some one is available to assist you. 252-354-4450. Public Works staff will also be spreading Larvacide in the ditches and drains along the town’s public right-of-ways and any wetlands that are accessible to us in an effort to keep the population at a minimum. We will also be making periodic landing counts around town to judge the population of the adult mosquitoes.
