Artist Reception at Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation
On
Friday, January 27th from 6 – 8pm Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation
will host a reception for this month’s artist, Kevin Geraghty. Light
refreshments will be served. Come out and meet the artist!
Kevin
Geraghty will display his photographs at Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation, 7500
Emerald Drive, during the month of January.
Kevin
is an amateur photographer who discovered his love for sea turtles while
volunteering with the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Protection Program and the NC
Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. He has been an aquarium volunteer since the
facility reopened in May 2006. He started photographing the loggerhead babies
during the 2006 turtle season. He shoots with a Canon 7D, with various zoom
lenses.
Kevin has three videos to
watch on either Facebook, “Friends of Emerald Isle” or on YouTube (search for
“Emerald Isle Loggerheads”). The first video explains the Sea Turtle Protection
Program; the second video is a photo story of a nest boiling while the third
video is a movie of that same nest boiling: fun to watch and learn.
A
very small number of loggerhead babies make it to full adulthood. They need all
the help we can give them. Kevin hopes that visitors will take home a new
appreciation of these magnificent creatures which are a threatened species on
our beautiful shores.
Kevin and his wife, Brenda,
both retired in 2006 from GlaxoSmithKline in Research Triangle Park. They live
in Emerald Isle but when they must, they return to Raleigh to visit with the six
grandkids.
Kevin’s photos can be seen
and purchased from his web site at:
www.keving.smugmug.com.
A portion of the sales of his turtle photos is donated each year to the Karen
Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center, Topsail Island, NC. He
can be reached by email at:
