Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation held the 2008 Emerald Isle Youth Fishing
Derby on Saturday, June 28th from 9:00-11:00am at the Bogue Inlet Pier.
The event was a great success. 68 children participated in the fun filled day
of fishing. Every participant received a goody pack stuffed with goodies from
local businesses.
Biggest fish went to Hunter Cancellarich with a 13.25 in
Pompano.
Michaella Good took home 2nd place with a 29.5 in Ribbon Fish.

in Flounder caught by Madeline Daughtry got the prize for 3rd and Robert
Hill’s 12 in Flounder got 4th biggest fish.
The most
fish caught by a girl 7 and under was Abigail Oliver with 4 fish.
Richard Koplin’s 8 fish secured the
winning spot for most fish caught by boy 7 and under.
In the 8and up category
of most fish caught Kaleyah Young’s 3 fish secured the win and Dylan Dixon’s 6
did the same for him.
Bradley Deluzio caught the first fish of the day at
9:06am and the last fish was caught at 10:59am by Mary Catherine Whitley.
Brandon Smith caught the smallest fish with a 3.25 in Sea Robin.
Hunter Cancallerich, Dylan Dixon and Robert Hill won prizes for most unusual fish
caught with their Sea Robins.
Michaella Good also received a most unusual fish
award for her Ribbon Fish.
Chris Culp’s Sand Perch also secured a spot on the
most unusual fish caught for the day.
The derby was a great success thanks to
the help of the volunteers that came out and gave their time as well as the
local businesses and people that made donations. For further information
