2009 Get clued in with NC Aquarium “Critter Signs” Family Night 5pm - 9pm
Help crack the case of the critter
culprit in a Family Night “whodunit,” on Thursday, July 2, at the North Carolina
Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
Follow the trail of scat, tracks and
telltale animal indicators under the theme, “CSI: Critter Signs Investigation.”
Special evening hours for sleuthing are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; ticket sales end at 8
p.m.
Other intriguing activities
scheduled:
·
Detect “whooooo” that owl ate
– dissect an owl pellet for the inside scoop on its diet.
·
Enjoy the antics of river
otters as they investigate their habitat for hidden treats.
·
Rejoice with Ollie the Otter
as discovers his identity in “The River Otter Show.”
·
Have a hoot of a time getting
clued in on owls in a live bird program, courtesy the Outer Banks Wildlife
Shelter.
Also enjoy classroom investigations
and a dive show. For an added treat, a giant sand sculpture greets visitors at
the front entrance. The famed Sandy Feat sand sculptors turn 16 tons of beach
sand into an “otter playground” scene.
The Aquarium celebrates summer with
extended hours for themed Family Nights every other Thursday. Future Family
Nights are July 16, July 30 and Aug. 13.
The Aquarium offers its usual
schedule of diving presentations, animal feedings, live animal programs and
other activities throughout the day when Family Nights are scheduled. Field
trips, boat excursions and other fee programs also are available as scheduled.
Family Night activities are free
with membership or regular admission-- $8 for ages 18-61, $7 for ages 62 and up
and $6 for ages 6-17. Children 5 and under and North Carolina Aquariums members
are admitted free. Daytime visitors may return for Family Night activities the
same evening at no charge by presenting their receipts.
Ticket sales end at 8 p.m. on Family
Nights. Normal operating hours outside Family Nights are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily,
including Independence Day, Saturday, July 4. The Aquarium is five miles west of

4th Fireworks at McLean Park! 9pm Saturday, July 4th
T he Town will present July 4th fireworks
at McLean Park, the Town's new soundfront park located adjacent to
Chapel By The Sea near mile marker 18 on NC 58. Class A Fireworks, a
Carteret County pyrotechnic company, will put on the show for the Town.
We invite everyone to enjoy this year's show
from its new location. Please keep the following tips in mind to help us
insure the safest, easiest, most pleasant viewing experience for everyone:
- A public viewing area will be provided on
large vacant tracts of land on both sides of Chapel By The Sea (near mile
marker 18). Please bring a blanket, towel, or lawn chair. No
Dogs please! NO
COOLERS!
- Portable toilets will be available.
- Parking will be available along NC 58 and
other nearby streets. Please park safely, and respect nearby private
property! Please do not park in front of private driveways or fire
hydrants.
- Handicapped parking will be available at
the Chapel By The Sea parking lot. (Handicapped placards only.)
- Be careful walking to and from the public
viewing area! Please bring a flashlight to help guide your party in the
dark!
- We expect a big crowd, so carpooling is
encouraged!
- We also encourage anyone who can walk or
bicycle to the show to please do so!
- The fireworks can also be viewed from
other soundfront locations, from nearby oceanfront locations, and nearby
neighborhoods. We expect the fireworks to be visible from the beach strand
within a couple mile radius of the site.
- The fireworks can also be viewed by boat
from Bogue Sound. Navigation is tricky in Bogue Sound near the McLean Park
site, and the recommended boat viewing locations are in the Atlantic
Intracoastal Waterway due north of McLean Park and also in Bogue Sound just
west of Archer's Point.
Vehicle traffic is expected to be heavy
before and after the fireworks show. PLEASE BE PATIENT AND SAFE!
In the event of rain or high winds, the
makeup date is Sunday, July 5 at 9 pm.
The owner of Bogue Inlet Pier has indicated
that he is no longer interested in partnering with the Town for July 4th
fireworks, thus they will not be fired from the Pier this year.
Please join us for a great celebration of our
Nation's 233rd birthday!
