Workshop will take place in the lounge at Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation, 7500 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle on Saturday, February 4th and Saturday, February 18th from 10am until 4pm.  The workshop fee is $25 per participant, payable with your pre-registration.  Maximum of 30 participants will be accepted.  Graduate credit is available for those interested.  A $65 graduate course credit is applicable, payable at the workshop.  Participants must pre-register.  To register for this workshop contact Lainey Gottuso at 252.354.6350 or lgottuso@emeraldisle-nc.org Print Registration!

Course Description:  Connecting the Arts with 21st Century STEAM Learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics).  This course introduces and applies the skills of the arts applicable to STEAM.  These skills will empower students to function in an “increasingly complex, conceptual, and globalized 21st-centruy society and economy” (Taylor).  The mind habits of creativity, critical thinking, innovative thinking, and problem-solving are crucial to students becoming self-directed learners.  Our country’s success depends on individuals who are effective communicators, collaborators, and, ironically, independent thinkers with initiative.  This course is designed for everyone interested in skills for success across the curriculum.  The arts provide opportunities available in no other way.  It introduces STEAM as a viable and comprehensive educational approach to lifelong learning.
