The Friends of Western Carteret Library will auction off a special edition fine art piece, Monday, December 21 at the library. “Postman’s Gift” is a 1997 William Magnum signed, numbered, offset lithograph; one of several donated fine art items to be used for the upcoming building project.
William Magnum, born in Pinehurst, is considered North Carolina’s foremost landscape artist. His works have expressed the beauty of North Carolina from the coast to the mountains and has produced more than 3,000 paintings with over 400 limited edition lithographs from the collection.
“Postman’s Gift” is number 192/950. It is 22 x 32 inches, with an overall size of 36.5 X 46 inches. The lithograph comes in a velum covered acid free paper folio; it is not framed, and includes a certificate of authenticity. “Postman’s Gift” shows a beautiful, snowy, mailbox-lined road with one mailbox holding the postman’s Christmas gift. On the secondary market, the print is valued at $300.
William Magnum is a prolific artist typically producing more than 60 original paintings a year with some becoming limited edition prints, puzzles, and calendars. Works include university art, golf art, books, and he has even transitioned into the home furnishings business. His philanthropic concern for the homeless includes an “Honor Cards” annual campaign where a beautiful Magnum card will be sent to a person saying that a donation in their name was made to an outreach agency.
The “Postman’s Gift” silent auction sheet is available now at the Western Carteret Public Library in Cape Carteret. The auction begins with a starting bid of $150 and increases by $10 increments. Bidders need to be at least 18 years old, and should include a phone number and email address. Bidding stops Monday, December 21, the winner will be notified by 5:00 pm, and the print must be picked up at the library.
