CedarFest 2015 takes place on Saturday, July 25 from 9am-4pm this year! Location for the event is the Octagon House & Cedar Point waterfront in Cedar Point, NC. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation is offering Beginner Ballroom Dancing Lessons. July is HOT, HOT, HOT and the dance theme is SALSA! Instruction will be by Nicole Futrell and will take place on Tuesday July 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th from 7pm-8pm at the Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation Community Center. You don’t have to have a partner to join in the FUN! Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation is partnering with Emerald Owl Productions, Inc. to bring our area an exciting new attraction for this summer and beyond. The Crystal Coast is in need of more youth and family friendly entertainment after dark. The laser light dance series will provide families and adolescents a safe family friendly venue, while providing a much needed break for mom and dad.

This summer series will bring a high energy, fun filled event that families will not soon forget.

* Parents of younger kids can dance and engage in fun activities with their kids at a full laser show dance party!

* Middle school aged kids can be dropped off in a safe environment, so the parents can enjoy a night out. Salt Lounge will be offering specials in conjunction with the event.

The series will continue every Thursday evening starting June 23rd throughout the summer. Admission starts at $15.00 with price breaks for families with 3-4 kids. Group rates start at 5 and large group rates are also available.

The laser light series will also take place at the Morehead City Boys and Girls Club on Mondays and Surf City Community Center on Wednesdays. Additional venues may be added throughout the summer.

Girls Youth Volleyball registration will begin August 1st and end August 31st. Registration Fee is $30 for the following age divisions: Girls 9-10, 11-12, 13-14. Player's age is determined as of Oct. 1st. The league is sponsored by Carteret County Parks & Recreation, Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation and Morehead City Parks & Recreation Departments. Youth Surfing Competition Series Presented by Eastern Surfing Association and Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation


Novice surfers ages 14 & under are invited to participate in a series of FREE competitions designed to have fun, learn about competition strategies and meet other surfers your age. Awards at each event. Trophies for series champions. Participants may compete in any or all mini-contests. Participants must know how to swim.

When: Thursdays: June 18th,July 16th and August 20th starting at 4:15 pm. Make-up date will be the following Thursday for each contest.

Where: Western Public Access, Emerald Isle, NC

PEP Program (Police Educating the Public)

The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, will be a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10:00am. These classes will cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. Our goal with this program will be to increase public awareness, as well as, provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. Our vision for this program is that by putting a little "PEP" in our community, we can reduce criminal activity and prevent our citizens from becoming the next victim. Family Pirate Day



Avast, me maties. X marks the spot at the Western Carteret Library for Family Pirate Day, on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00am-2:00 pm. The Pirate Friends of the Library and Captain Christine Brin of the N.C. Maritime Museum will hoist the colors for pirate fun and adventure.

Create a pirate hat, get pirate tattoos, make merry with a Beaufort pirate, join in a costume contest, get a pirate photo taken, go on a scavenger hunt, listen to pirate stories, learn about the infamous Blackbeard, and collect pirate booty.

"The Friends of Western Carteret Public Library are happy to provide another Family Pirate Day for the communities served by our library. Last year, over 100 children and their families came to the library to be pirates for a day. We look forward to having more families attend this year," said Karen Naftzger, program chair for the Friends.

“School may have started but the summer fun isn't over yet,” said Christine Brin, Group and Volunteer Coordinator for the N.C. Maritime Museum. “We are planning exciting activities that include old favorites and some exciting new surprises.”

Thar'll be no walking of the plank at Family Pirate Day, so join in for some pirate fun." No registration is needed and the events are free.

Shiver me timbers and keep a weathered eye open to collect even more pirate booty. During September, “Find Your Treasure at the Library” in the bookmark design contest for kids and teens. Four winning entries will be printed and given out at the library. Winners will receive ten bookmarks and a gift certificate from the Emerald Isle bookstore. Entry forms are available at the library, on the library's website, at Emerald Isle Day 4 Kids Festival, and at Family Pirate Day. The deadline is October 1.

The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, will be a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10:00am. These classes will cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. Our goal with this program will be to increase public awareness, as well as, provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. Our vision for this program is that by putting a little "PEP" in our community, we can reduce criminal activity and prevent our citizens from becoming the next victim. First Aid & CPR Certification Class in Emerald Isle

Is it time to renew, or receive for the first time, your CPR certification? You never know when you will find yourself in an emergency situation and knowing the proper methods and procedures may boost your confidence to take action and save someone’s life! American Heart Association First Aid & CPR Certification provides training on how to correctly perform First Aid and CPR on adults, children and infants. All students must pre-register and prepay to hold your spot. Certification class takes place at the Community Center, 7500 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle. There will not be a break for lunch, but snacks are welcome. Maximum class size is 9. A minimum of 6 students is required. Certification class fee is $35 and is due at time of registration, no exceptions. No textbook fees! You must pre-register and prepay for this class. 12th Annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade

Emerald Isle Christmas Parade sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association and the Town of Emerald Isle will take place on Saturday, November 28th beginning at 3pm on Hwy 58, Emerald Drive. Important note to all entrants: There will be only ONE Santa Claus in the parade and he will be riding in a float at the end. All other Santa’s will be sent back to the North Pole! Also, please join us after the parade for the official Christmas Tree Lighting at Merchant’s Park! Enjoy free refreshments, as well as a holiday caroling sing-a-long as Santa Claus visits with the children.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation will host our 3rd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair in the Gymnasium. The Fair will feature all handmade or hand-authenticated items from local artisans and crafters. This is also the weekend of our annual Christmas Parade which is the kick-off to the holiday season here in Emerald Isle.
