"Dating, Mating and Romance in the Animal Kingdom" on Saturday evening, Feb. 13, is a fun prelude to Valentine's Day. Couples and singles are welcome at this amorous and humorous evening all about animal attraction. See how you match up to Mother Nature with the "Mating Game." March 5, 2010 6pm Dinner 7pm concert MUSICIANS FOR MISSIONS 2010 (M4M ‘10) Ginger Ginger was appointed chairwoman to the Haiti Initiative Service of Swansboro United Methodist Church in May 2009, where there is a clear vision: Help revitalize, rebuild, and renew Haiti through maternal and child health initiatives, which include education, public health, and medical missions. Says Ginger, “M4M is a way to bring together a myriad of people and organizations - local artists, community, corporations, & church – for a Greater Good. M4M 2010 – Dinner at 6 pm, Pig Pickin’ style, at $7/person or $20/family (a family would include parents and their young children only), hosted by Swansboro United Methodist Men. The concert “curtain”, free and open to the community by donation, will raise at 7 pm, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Finley Woolston and M4M organizer, Ginger Garner. Over a dozen local and regional musicians from North Carolina are slated to perform. Supporting local music is a great way to foster cultural growth and appreciation for the arts in NC. March 13, 2010 9am – 5pm 19th Annual Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Festival sponsored by Emerald Isle Business Association on Saturday, March 13th from 9am-5pm at the Emerald Plantation shopping center. Admission and parking are free for the festival. This year’s festival will feature over 75 arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, clowns and static displays along with amusement rides, a climbing wall, face painters, and many other fun, family-oriented activities. As always, the festival will feature delicious foods such as corned beef and cabbage, shrimp burgers, hamburgers and hot dogs, Mediterranean cuisine, BBQ, funnel cakes, fried peanuts, cotton candy and much, much more. Festival goers can also enjoy a beer garden. The Little Ms. & Mr. Leprechaun Contest will take place on the main stage at 11am. The contest is for boys and girls ages 2-3 and 4-5 with each participant being judged on the originality and creativity of their costume and overall stage presentation. The 8K course follows a simple out-and-back route from the access, briefly down Hwy. 58, and then along scenic Ocean Drive. The 5K Fun Run will be non competitive and begin at 8:15. May 3, 2010 6-8pm at Community Center (will remain open until all spaces are filled) Summer Day Camp Registration Summer Day Camp registration opens on Monday, May 3rd beginning at 6pm and stays open until all spaces are full. Children do not need to be members of Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation to participant. All sessions are one week in length for a total of 8 weeks of summer day camp. Camp hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm. The fee for each one week session is $75 per child with additional per diem fees for field trips, etc. A discounted rate is available for families with 3 or more children enrolled in the same session. $25 per session is due at registration to secure your space. Maximum enrollment per session is 25 campers. Each walk will begin and end at the Emerald Isle Community Center with different routes walked each week; most walks will be 2-3 miles. Rain location will be the Emerald Isle Community Center gymnasium. This program is open to participants of all ages. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Each mile walked earns 1 point. There will also be Bonus Miles that can be earned each week; for example a family walk outside of the Walking Club can earn up to 5 points!
