Spring Walking Club

Come out and join fellow neighbors and friends in an attempt to create a healthier lifestyle. Each walk will begin and end at the Emerald Isle Community Center with different routes walked each week; most walks will be 2-3 miles. Rain location will be the Emerald Isle Community Center gymnasium. This program is open to participants of all ages. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. There will also be Bonus Miles that can be earned each week; for example a family walk outside of the Walking Club can earn up to 5 points! At the end of the season, awards and gifts will be given to participants in many different categories. Summer Day Camp Registration

Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation takes great pride in the Summer Day Camp program offered to children ages 6-12 each summer. Summer Day Camp registration takes place the first Monday in May beginning at 8am. Camp operates from 7:30am until 5:30pm Monday through Friday during all 8 weeks of camp. The fee for each themed week of camp is $75; per diem fees apply throughout the week. A $25 per session deposit is due at time of registration. Membership to Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation Community Center is not mandatory. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp Program Mission: Is to provide both entertaining and educating activities for children 6-12, where activities are facilitated in a safe, fun environment by means that are structured and well supervised. Activities will provide enrichment for children and community. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp Program Objective: Is to reach out into the community and neighboring communities to encourage children and parents to see Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp as a place for children to interact with one another, learn valuable lessons in communication, develop teamwork skills, enhance physical condition, provide avenues for creative endeavors and present the children with opportunities to give back to the community. Rays Summer Teen Program Registration

This program is called RAYS, Responsible and Admirable Youth.

Rays Summer Teen Program is a one session camp that runs Monday- Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm. This program will give the older children of our community the opportunity to partake in activities that leave them feeling responsible and admirable. They will lead younger children in games and projects, help the environment, and have a lot of summer fun!

Registration begins on Monday, May 5th at 8am. $25 deposit due per week at time of registration!

Veterans Health Care and Benefits Expo

For our Veterans: An opportunity you don’t want to miss! On Monday, May 5, 2014, from to 10am-7pm, the Morehead City American Legion Post 46, the Carteret County Veterans Services Office, and the Carteret County Veterans Council will host a Veterans Health Care and Benefits Expo at the Crystal Coast Civic Center, 3505 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC.

The emphasis of this event will be VA Health Care Enrollment for Veterans and will present many organizations that provide support to Veterans and Families of Veteran.

Representatives will be available to enroll Veterans into the VA Health Care System.  Any interested Veteran should bring a copy (certified copy not required) of his/her DD-214 (discharge/report of separation).  For Veterans that do not have a copy of their DD-214, representatives will be available to assist with obtaining a copy from the National Personnel Records Center.

Veterans and their family members should not miss this event.  There will be representatives to answer questions about: VA Health Care, VA Disability & Pension Claims, Death Benefits, Survivor Benefits, Widow Benefits, and more.

Service members from all branches of service are invited: U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy,

U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard, and WWII Era Merchant Marine.

If you’re a veteran and don’t have health care, or are paying for your own health care, this event is for you.  This service is free--you have paid from Normandy & Iwo Jima, to Korea, to Vietnam, to Iraq and Afghanistan.

All Emerald Isle residents and their guests are invited and welcome to stop by and attend the Supper Club of Emerald Isle at 6:30pm on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Town Board Meeting Room.  There are no dues - just good news and good food! Coffee is available upon arrival. Pot-luck buffet begins with a prayer at 6:30pm. Please plan to attend whenever you are in town with casual attire, smiling faces, positive attitudes to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or to make announcements about anything important to you! Someone usually brings a cake, but don't let that stop you from bringing one too or another type of dessert, main dish, side dish, etc. The schedule for this year is the 3rd Thursday of each month: March 20, April 17, May 15, (June-August is our summer break), September 18, October 16, November 20, December TBA, usually earlier in December in order to meet the Toys for Tots deadline for donations, a supper club service. The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, will be a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10:00am. These classes will cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. Our goal with this program will be to increase public awareness, as well as, provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. Our vision for this program is that by putting a little "PEP" in our community, we can reduce criminal activity and prevent our citizens from becoming the next victim.

CPR and First Aid for Adults, Children & Infants

Is it time to renew, or receive for the first time, your CPR certification? You never know when you will find yourself in an emergency situation and knowing the proper methods and procedures may boost your confidence to take action and save someone’s life! American Heart Association First Aid & CPR Certification provides training on how to correctly perform First Aid and CPR on adults, children and infants. All students must pre-register and prepay to hold your spot. Certification class takes place at the Community Center, 7500 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle. Class is Wednesday, May 28th from 4pm to 8pm. There will not be a break for dinner, but snacks are welcome. Maximum class size is 9. A minimum of 6 students is required. Certification class fee is $35 and is due within 24 hours of registration, no exceptions. No textbook fees! You must pre-register and prepay for this class. Girls Youth Volleyball registration will begin August 1st and end August 31st. Registration Fee is TBA for the following age divisions: Girls 9-10, 11-12, 13-14. Player's age is determined as of Oct. 1st. The league is sponsored by Carteret County Parks & Recreation, Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation and Morehead City Parks & Recreation Departments. Practice begins September 2nd. Games begin October 1st.

However, vendors are responsible for giveaway items (approved by event director) for the first 400 children to visit their booth. The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, will be a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10:00am. These classes will cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. Our goal with this program will be to increase public awareness, as well as, provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. Our vision for this program is that by putting a little "PEP" in our community, we can reduce criminal activity and prevent our citizens from becoming the next victim.

Emerald Isle Christmas Parade sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association and the Town of Emerald Isle will take place on Saturday, November 29th beginning at 3pm on Hwy 58, Emerald Drive. Important note to all entrants: There will be only ONE Santa Claus in the parade and he will be riding in a float at the end. All other Santa’s will be sent back to the North Pole! Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation will host a very special visitor; jolly Ol’ St. Nicholas at his “authentic beach shack”. Professional photographer Jeff Pennell of Pennell’s Photography, Inc. will capture the smiles of your child or grandchild. One day will be dedicated to photographs of your four legged, fur-children with the charming man in red. The sitting fee for each of your pint-sized loved ones is just 5 cans of non-perishable food or a 5lb. bag of dog or cat food, additional donations are welcome. Your professional photographs will be available for purchase online at www.jeffpennell.com . The basic package starts at $29.95. Santa Claus will be at his beach shack from 12-7 each day, but is available by appointment only. Preregistration and a $10 non- refundable deposit is due at registration.
