Come out and join fellow neighbors and friends in an attempt to create a healthier lifestyle. Each walk will begin and end at the Emerald Isle Community Center with different routes walked each week; most walks will be 2-3 miles. Ribbon Cutting / Grand Opening Ceremony - New Welcome Center


The Town of Emerald Isle and the Crystal Coast Tourism Development Authority (TDA) invite you to attend a ribbon cutting / grand opening ceremony for the new Welcome Center in Emerald Isle on Tuesday, September 8 at 5 pm. The location is 8401 Emerald Drive, the site of the former Merchants Park, located on NC 58 approximately ½ mile west of the Town Government Complex.

The ceremony will begin at 5 pm, and will celebrate the excellent partnership between the Town, the TDA, and the NCDOT to enhance tourism in Emerald Isle and all of Carteret County. The new location on the island and adjacent to the popular bicycle path is expected to result in a significant increase in the number of visitors that utilize the facility to learn more about all the great things offered in our area.

The event is open to anyone who is interested in celebrating this new facility with us! Refreshments will be served. Please park along the grassy area of NC 58 nearby if necessary. We hope to see you there!

(The new Welcome Center had a “soft” opening on Friday, August 22, and is now open to the public. The formal ribbon cutting / grand opening ceremony will be held on September 8.)

9/11 Memorial Ride


Plan to come out and honor our wounded warriors and first responders on Saturday, September 12, 2015. A memorial ride beginning at the Morehead City Elks Lodge will pass through our community. There will be hundreds of motorcycles escorting classic cars with wounded warriors. In addition, they expect other vehicles to participate. Residents are not only invited to greet the ride as it passes, but also to participate in the ride by registering at the Elks Lodge starting at 9am. There will be entertainment including a parachute jump by the Special Forces team and a performance by the Atlantic Beach Fire Department Pipes & Drums. There will be a silent auction and plenty of food. See the attached registration for details! Let's Show Our Support!!

The Emerald Isle Police Department is proud to introduce the PEP program to Emerald Isle. The PEP program, or Police Educating the Public, will be a series of one hour classes presented on the third Tuesday of every month in the Town Board Meeting Room at 10:00am. These classes will cover a variety of subjects relevant to issues being faced by communities across the country. Our goal with this program will be to increase public awareness, as well as, provide education and tips on how you can prevent yourself from becoming vulnerable to these issues. Our vision for this program is that by putting a little "PEP" in our community, we can reduce criminal activity and prevent our citizens from becoming the next victim. Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Hosts 10th Annual Day4Kids


On Saturday, September 19th from 10am until 2pm,Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation, along with the Emerald Isle Business Association and other sponsors, will host the 10th Annual Day4Kids at the Emerald Isle community center. Each year, Day4Kids takes place on the 3rd Saturday of September and has been a success for the past 9 years. Day4Kids brings adults and children of all ages together for a FREE fun-filled day of vendors, activities, games, face painting and more! Some of the attractions and activities this year include: WoodmenLife Star Lab, Kinetico Water trailer (bring a cup or bottle to fill up), a book exchange with the Friends of Western Carteret Library, hotdogs and drinks, popcorn, cotton candy, inflatable rides, face painting and balloon sculpting by Isabel the Clown. Joyce Trafton will work with kids in the Day4Kids Garden located at Water Tower Park. There will be several vendors giving away free gifts and information. Ronald McDonald will be visiting as well as Curly Top from DQ of Emerald Isle and Cow from Morehead City Chick-fil-A. A raffle drawing will take place and excellent prizes will be awarded in three different age groups. This event has become well known in the community and provides a day for families to enjoy quality time with their children. The event is open and free to the public. Flu shots will be offered at Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation, 7500 Emerald Drive on Thursday, September 24th from 10am to 1pm in the Community Center Lounge. No appointment is necessary. Flu shots will be administered by Realo Discount Drugs pharmacist and staff. The flu vaccine is available for $25 and is available at no cost for most insurance companies and Medicare. Family Pirate Day



Avast, me maties. X marks the spot at the Western Carteret Library for Family Pirate Day, on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00am-2:00 pm. The Pirate Friends of the Library and Captain Christine Brin of the N.C. Maritime Museum will hoist the colors for pirate fun and adventure.

Create a pirate hat, get pirate tattoos, make merry with a Beaufort pirate, join in a costume contest, get a pirate photo taken, go on a scavenger hunt, listen to pirate stories, learn about the infamous Blackbeard, and collect pirate booty.

"The Friends of Western Carteret Public Library are happy to provide another Family Pirate Day for the communities served by our library. Last year, over 100 children and their families came to the library to be pirates for a day. We look forward to having more families attend this year," said Karen Naftzger, program chair for the Friends.

“School may have started but the summer fun isn't over yet,” said Christine Brin, Group and Volunteer Coordinator for the N.C. Maritime Museum. “We are planning exciting activities that include old favorites and some exciting new surprises.”

Thar'll be no walking of the plank at Family Pirate Day, so join in for some pirate fun." No registration is needed and the events are free.

Shiver me timbers and keep a weathered eye open to collect even more pirate booty. During September, “Find Your Treasure at the Library” in the bookmark design contest for kids and teens. Four winning entries will be printed and given out at the library. Winners will receive ten bookmarks and a gift certificate from the Emerald Isle bookstore. Entry forms are available at the library, on the library's website, at Emerald Isle Day 4 Kids Festival, and at Family Pirate Day. The deadline is October 1.

Youth Tennis Clinic in Emerald Isle with Tony Pereira will take place at the Emerald Isle Community Center on Mondays from 4 - 5:00pm, October 5th -November 9th 2015. The six week session will be $70 for ages 11-13. Only those students who have taken the beginners clinic may participate. Registration is limited to 6 students. First Aid & CPR Certification Class in Emerald Isle

Is it time to renew, or receive for the first time, your CPR certification? You never know when you will find yourself in an emergency situation and knowing the proper methods and procedures may boost your confidence to take action and save someone’s life! American Heart Association First Aid & CPR Certification provides training on how to correctly perform First Aid and CPR on adults, children and infants. All students must pre-register and prepay to hold your spot. Certification class takes place at the Community Center, 7500 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle. There will not be a break for lunch, but snacks are welcome. Maximum class size is 9. A minimum of 6 students is required. Certification class fee is $35 and is due at time of registration, no exceptions. No textbook fees! You must pre-register and prepay for this class. 12th Annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade

Emerald Isle Christmas Parade sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association and the Town of Emerald Isle will take place on Saturday, November 28th beginning at 3pm on Hwy 58, Emerald Drive. Important note to all entrants: There will be only ONE Santa Claus in the parade and he will be riding in a float at the end. All other Santa’s will be sent back to the North Pole! Also, please join us after the parade for the official Christmas Tree Lighting at Merchant’s Park! Enjoy free refreshments, as well as a holiday caroling sing-a-long as Santa Claus visits with the children.

The Fair will feature all handmade or hand-authenticated items from local artisans and crafters. This is also the weekend of our annual Christmas Parade which is the kick-off to the holiday season here in Emerald Isle.
