VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Art Display Program – There are many people in the Emerald Isle area or with an Emerald Isle connection that have significant artistic talent. The Town of Emerald Isle is pleased to provide space in the Lounge of the Community Center for these artists to display their art work. This program provides the Lounge with an extra decorative touch, is an excellent way to showcase talents of local individuals, and helps to get others involved in art activities. To learn more about the program or to display your art work, please call Linda Anderson at 252-354-5693 or email Linda at LindaAnderson@ec.rr.com  Interested artists please print display form!

  • Blood Drives - Blood Drives are held in Emerald isle every 2 months. There is a need for people to publicize the event, to register people, and to hand out cookies and drinks to the people that donate.    Many people that volunteer are people that for one reason or another cannot donate, but want to support the project.   There is always a need for blood donations. If interested in helping, please call Nancy Ziegler at 354-4541.

  • Carteret Literacy Council - Learn how to share your love for reading with others by being a volunteer tutor.  The Carteret Literacy Council provides the training you need to be certified as a tutor to those who need assistance to improve reading, writing, and math skills.  A few hours of your time can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment for someone else.  Learn more!

  • Cleanup Projects - Many people walk the beach every day and pick up any trash they see. We thank them very much. This along with the trash pickup performed by our Public Works Department, keeps our beach in very good shape.   The Civitan Club also picks up trash weekly during the summer & spring along the multi-use paths.  To learn about cleanup opportunities, email the Mayor, or call him at 252-354-3424.

  • Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation Volunteer Opportunities!  This is a call for volunteers to assist with upcoming events.  What a great way to serve your community and be part of the fun and excitement at the same time!  We know you may not be able to assist with every event, but just a little bit of help here and there can make a big difference in creating memorable events. Click here to learn more about our Volunteer Incentive Program!

  • Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Protection Program - This group walks the beach each day during turtle nesting season to identify the location of new turtle nests, and to make sure the beach is in proper condition during turtle hatching season. Typically volunteers are assigned a section of the beach to walk each day, and to notify the leaders of any nests identified.  For more information email Jim Craig, or call him at  354-4001 or email Pam Minnick or call her at 354-4288.

  • EMS Squad- Drivers/EMTs needed!  Anyone interested please call the Emerald Isle EMS at 354-2249!  The Emerald Isle EMS is located at 7604 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, NC  28594.   View Emerald Isle EMS website!

  • Fire Department -Volunteers serve in many ways! Firefighters are always needed, but there is also a need for public educators, photographers, truck operators, and of course don't forget "Sparky"! You can make a difference just by being on hand to give relief to the firefighters during an emergency. There really is a job for everyone!   Email Chief Walker for details, or call him at 354-2445!

  • Friends of the Western Carteret Library - This group has been one of our biggest success stories. Through book sales, yard sales, donations, and a lot of hard work, they have enabled the western part of Carteret County to go from no library, to a state of the art library and learning center. To get involved, email Sally Waters or call her at 354-4722.

  • Ft. Macon Tour Guides  Learn some fascinating local history and volunteer to give tours (averaging 40 minutes) of beautiful old Ft. Macon. This is one of the most visited state parks, and guides have the pleasure of taking visitors on casual walking tours from April through October. The time commitment is only a few hours per month, but the rewards are great—people, some from distant parts, are always surprised to explore and learn about the beautifully restored structure, and to hear some of the history of this storied site. No need to be an expert—even our “training” is fun. Call John Rhodes at 252-393-7313, or email him for more information at croatan2@coastalnet.com

  • Island Cat Allies - This group captures wild cats, sterilizes them, and returns them to the place where they were found. This keeps the cats to a manageable number, and prevents them from overpopulating an area. To learn more call Suzanne Lindley at 354.7780.

  • North Carolina Aquarium Pine Knoll Shores - Volunteer at the North Carolina Aquarium Pine Knoll Shores - The Volunteer Office at the Aquarium is currently accepting applications for certain positions.  Call 252.247.4003, ext. 286 for Volunteer Coordinator or email christine.carlin@ncmail.net - Print Flyer!

  • Revegetation/Reforestation Committee - The Revegetation Committee was formed in calendar year 2000 to help revegetate the town after being hit with several hurricanes in a fairly short period of time. The committee has now expanded its effort to include building several small gardens to show residents the types of plants  that will grow near the beach, and those that will grow in other parts of town. They are also a resource for homeowners to get assistance with their own gardening challenges.  For more information, please phone Peggy Brown at 354-5537.
