Bike & Pedestrian Advisory Committee

Emerald Isle's Bike and Pedestrian Committee was established by the Town Board of Commissioners in September 2003. The purpose of this Committee is to advocate for programs that promote biking and walking and projects that provide safe and convenient facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians in Emerald Isle, including the recommendations of the Highway 58 Corridor report, form a visible, vocal and effective coalition of pedestrian and bicycle advocate, support bicycle and pedestrian friendly legislation, develop and implement bicycle and pedestrian safety education programs for bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers of motor vehicles, advocate for bicycle and pedestrian friendly facilities throughout Emerald Isle including bicycle lanes and walkways and to promote livable communities and lifestyles by offering alternatives to automobile dependence

The Alesia F. Sanderson Bicycle and Pedestrian Path

In April 2022, the Path was dedicated in honor of Alesia Sanderson, who retired as the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Director after 32 years of service. 

Committee Update: January 20, 2025

We’re looking for passionate community members to fill an open position on our Bike & Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Help us make Emerald Isle even more bike- and pedestrian-friendly! The Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9 AM, Jan- May, Sept- Dec. (they do not meet June- August) in the Community Center Conference Room. Committee members serve for two-year terms. This is your chance to contribute to a healthier, safer, and more connected community.

The Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 9 AM, January through May and September to December in the Community Center Conference Room at 203 Leisure Lane. They do not meet June through August.
