Jean Preston Memorial Playground Fundraising Continues
A volunteer committee continues its fundraising efforts for the development of a new playground facility in memory of the late State Senator and Emerald Isle resident Jean Preston. The committee's fundraising goal is $75,000, and they are currently approaching $40,000 in contributions.
The Town recently completed the purchase (with significant State grant funding) of an additional vacant lot adjacent to the Emerald Isle Public Boating Access Area, and will combine this lot with an adjacent lot already owned by the Town to provide approximately 1 acre of upland area on Bogue Sound for the new playground.
Jean Preston was a dedicated public servant who was committed to children, education, and Emerald Isle. She served in the NC House and NC Senate for 20 years until her retirement in 2012. Sadly, she passed away in January 2013 after a serious fall. Please help us to honor this special lady who represented Emerald Isle so well for so many years.
