Mini Libraries

Ten mini libraries are available throughout Emerald Isle, due to a project through the Friends of the Carteret County Public Library that serves Western Carteret.

These mini libraries are stationed in public areas, where anyone can take a book to read, then return it or donate one of your own. According to a press release from the Friends, each box was individually created and donated by a local resident. In addition, each box has a personal steward who will keep it clean and stocked on a regular basis.

The Town approved the various locations, and helped by installing the posts for the mini libraries. A dedication was held just prior to Memorial Day Weekend, and Mayor Jason Holland and Parks and Recreation Director Candace Dooley were on hand.

The libraries can be found at the following locations:

  • Coast Guard Road/Channel Drive
  • Ocean Oaks/Ocean Drive
  • Ocean Oaks Park
  • Holiday Trav-L Park Resort
  • Western Ocean Regional Access
  • Crystal Coast Visitor Center
