
Hurricane Idalia: Important Emergency Preparation Steps!

In anticipation for the arrival of Hurricane Idalia, the Town of Emerald Isle reminds Property Owners and Visitors of the following emergency preparation steps! Please review the following crucial emergency preparation guidelines:

Yard Debris Collection Suspended:
Yard debris collection will be suspended from August 29 through September 5, 2023. Kindly refrain from placing yard debris along roadways until Tuesday, September 5.
Trash Collection Update:
Trash collection on Thursday, August 31, 2023, is suspended for soundside areas due to expected winds exceeding 60 MPH. Avoid placing trash cans out on Wednesday night for Thursday collection. Normal Friday collection is anticipated, weather permitting.
Hurricane Re-Entry Permit Program:
Our Hurricane Re-Entry Permit Program aims to expedite your safe return to the island after an evacuation. To ensure swift access to your property, consider obtaining a re-entry permit. Permits are available for $25. To apply for new or additional permits, complete the Residential Application for Disaster Re-Entry Permit Form or call us at 252-354-2021. Before the Hurricane:
- Verify possession of your re-entry permit.
- Assemble or replenish your Disaster Supplies Kit, including essentials for evacuation or home confinement.
- Organize tools, emergency supplies, and a first aid kit in containers that are easy to carry.
Roadway Flooding:
Anticipate road flooding due to projected rainfall of 6-8 inches. To stay safe:
- Limit travel.
- Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
- Heed the "Turn Around, Don’t Drown" principle.
