Memo-04-10-2018-Item-10e

April 10, 2018

MEMO TO:        Mayor Barber and Board of Commissioners

FROM:             Frank A. Rush, Jr., Town Manager

SUBJECT:       Resolution Declaring Surplus Items for Public Auction

The Board of Commissioners is asked to approve the attached resolution declaring certain items as surplus and authorizing sale via an internet auction.

The attached resolution includes 6 motor vehicles and two utility vehicles:

  • a 1989 Chevrolet school bus (approximately 73,000 miles) that was used by the Parks and Recreation Department for children’s programs; bus was previously donated to the Town by Carteret County Schools and was recently replaced with a “new” used school bus,
  • a 2002 Dodge pickup truck (approximately 85,000 miles) that was initially used by the Fire Department and then transferred to the Parks and Recreation Department; vehicle was replaced earlier this year due to poor condition,
  • a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup (approximately 122,000 miles) used by the Public Works Department; vehicle was replaced earlier this year due to poor condition,
  • a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria, (approximately 122,000 miles) that was recently used as a spare Police patrol vehicle and has been rotated out of service,
  • a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria (approximately 107,000 miles) that was recently used as a spare Police patrol vehicle and has been rotated out of service,
  • a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria (approximately 116,000 miles) used as a Police patrol vehicle; vehicle will not start and is not safe to drive, and will be auctioned rather than being used as a spare patrol vehicle,
  • two Bobcat 3400 utility vehicles (2012 and 2015), previously used by the Fire Department for the Beach Patrol; the 2012 model was replaced in 2017 due to excessive exposure to the salt environment, and the 2015 model will be replaced in the coming weeks due to poor condition and significant anticipated repair expenses.

The remaining items on the attached list are relatively minor items, are several years old, have been replaced with better equipment, and/or no longer function efficiently for Town department operations.

All sale proceeds will be credited to the FY 17-18 General Fund budget.

I recommend approval of the attached resolution.
