SUBJECT: Resolution Declaring Surplus Items for Public Auction
The Board of Commissioners is asked to approve the attached resolution declaring 34 Survivair SCBA air packs and masks previously used by the Emerald Isle Fire Department as surplus property, and authorizing the donation of this equipment to two non-profit fire departments: the Down East Fire Department (Carteret County, NC) and the White Oak Fire Department (Bladen County, NC).
As you know, the Emerald Isle Fire Department received a nearly $147,000 grant from the US Fire Administration, and recently upgraded its SCBA equipment. The surplus SCBA air packs and masks are approximately 17 years old, but will still be useful to the two non-profit fire departments who are operating with limited resources. (The White Oak Fire Department does not currently have any SCBA air packs and masks.) Under NCGS 160A-280, the Town is authorized to donate surplus items to other governmental units or non-profit organizations, provided appropriate public notices are provided. The donation of these items has been advertised in the Carteret County News-Times and the Town’s website prior to the December 13 meeting.
I recommend approval of the attached resolution.
