UTV 1

Our newest addition to the Emerald Isle EMS family is our UTV, Utility Task Vehicle, or beach utility vehicle. The UTV is a 2017 Bobcat UTV 3400, that is equipped with all the necessary equipment to treat minor injuries or medical emergencies. The UTV was purchased in 2017 and is designed to expand the services of Emerald Isle EMS by providing a timelier response to the medical needs of beach goers. An EMT with the UTV works on the beach during peak times to handle EMS emergencies deemed to require basic care. The EMT’s also assist incoming ambulance crews with patient packaging and loading when required. Use of the UTV will also allow paramedics to remain on the streets, focusing on other medical emergencies that may require Advanced Life Support.

The UTV is utilized throughout the summer on the beach, and on numerous occasions, has proved to be a great asset during times of high call volume. Rip Currents, rough seas, and envenomation’s, can create an overwhelming number of beach related calls. The UTV was there to assist in patient assessment and care, obtain refusals when required, and get patients safely off the beach and to the ambulance quickly.

UTV 1 also comes in handy for special events such as the EI Beach Music Festival, EI Marathon,  and St. Patrick's Day festival.
