Spring has been a little late here in Emerald Isle, but by the time you read this, I am sure Spring will be in full swing. Even though the temperatures have been a little cooler than normal, we have had several exciting events that experienced record attendance.
The first event was the St. Patrick's Day Festival that was held on March 13th. It was the 13th St. Patrick's Day Festival, and good planning, good advertising, and good weather all contributed to a record turnout. It was a great place to see many people that I had not seen over the winter, especially second homeowners from out of town. There were local as well as out of town food and art vendors that provided something for everyone.
We also had our annual Easter Egg hunt, which was held on Palm Sunday. This again had record attendance. The weather was absolutely perfect, and there were many non-residents that were in attendance, especially grandparents with their families. There was an area for the younger kids and another area for the older kids. And of course, the Easter Bunny was in attendance.
On the first Saturday of each month, bicycle riders have been meeting at Merchant's Park for a leisurely bicycle ride. The weather has not cooperated for these rides, but we have had three rides, which were enjoyed by all that attended. It is a great opportunity to get some exercise, gather with old friends, and meet some new friends.
On May 1, we are going to have our annual Spring Cleanup Day. Please join us at the Western Regional Access Park at 9 AM. We will branch out from there to tidy up as many areas of town as possible. Our town is certainly one of the cleanest that I have seen. Our Public Works crew, citizens, and business owners are determined to keep it that way. This special cleanup day is just another way of making sure it stays clean and neat.
In May, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee will be having an evening walk. The walk will start at the Western Ocean Regional Access (WORA) at 6 PM, and will also end at the WORA. The walk will be leisurely and one that everyone should enjoy.
As you can see, we have activities that appeal to a wide variety people and I hope to see all of you at these events. Check out our web page at emeraldisle-nc.org for current information. The web page is a great place to keep up with what is going on in town.
I look forward to seeing all of you in the coming months.
