April 2012

Lots of good things happening in Emerald Isle. The pier reopened March 17 after a lot of work this past winter by Mike Stanley and crew. Almost 300 feet of the pier was lost in Hurricane Irene last August, and Mike and crew completely rebuilt that section and the upper deck since Thanksgiving. Lots of cold windy days out there, but they kept plugging away and now Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is better than ever. Bushwacker’s will not open this year, but Mike has plans for an open air beachy restaurant in that space for next year.

Ronnie Watson bought the White Oak Racquet Club and it is now the Ole Porte Racquet Club. The club house has been added onto and completely remodeled, two courts have been added, and the original 4 courts completely rebuilt with all courts having state-of-the-art underground watering. As we have grown to expect from Ronnie Watson, everything is first class. You will not find a better tennis club anywhere, so be sure and check it out. A great place for year round members and they have an out-of-town membership rate. Vacationers and visitors to the area are also welcome with an hourly fee. When you come to Emerald Isle, be sure to bring your tennis racquets. Check out the web page at www.oleporteracquetclub.com and they can be reached by phone at 910.326.1655. They also have a Facebook Page.

Clamdiggers Closet and Marie Cavanagh have opened in Veranda Square in the old Islamarada space. Clamdiggers Closet relocated from Swansboro (it was known as The Mercantile there). They will be carrying lady’s fun casual clothing, some men’s, some children’s, and lots of jewelry. Marie Cavanagh will be carrying fine ladies clothing, gifts, and home décor. Check them out. I am sure you will like them.

BB&T has taken over the space vacated by Bank of America when they closed the Emerald Isle Branch last August. BB&T is currently remodeling that space and hopes to be open by June 1. The staff will be familiar to many of you as it will be a mixture of staff from the BB&T Branch in Cedar Point and some of the former Bank of America staff in Emerald Isle. We have really missed not having a bank in Emerald Isle since last summer and are very pleased that BB&T will soon be operating here.

Emerald Grill in K&V Plaza has expanded into the space on the corner next to them. Great to see another business expanding.

Reel Outdoors and Village market are in the permit review stage to expand their building. They bought the property currently occupied by the car wash and plan to expand into that area. Won’t be ready this summer, but should be ready late fall or winter. Always good to see a business start in rental space, then move into their own building, and now adding on.

Make sure to mark your calendars for EmeraldFest, Emerald Isle’s Summer Concert Series. The concerts will take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of June, July, August, and September at the Western Ocean Regional Access (next to Islander Suites) at 6:30 PM. Entertainers will be announced shortly.

Looking forward to seeing all of y’all at the beach. It is going to be another great year.
