August 2015

It is difficult to believe that it is August already. Summer seems to be flying by. I hope everyone is having a great summer and are enjoying the warm and beautiful days at Emerald Isle.  August is a great month to enjoy the beach and to spend time with family and friends.  If you have not attended EmeraldFest on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm I invite you to do so.  The attendance has been great and the music has been just fantastic.  It is held at the Western Regional Beach Access.  The schedule for August is:

  •       August 6: Scearce & Ketner (Seagrass)
  •       August 13: Naked Knees (What a Party Sounds Like)
  •       August 20: Big Drink (Acoustic Rock)

Another fun event in August will be the Teen and Family Night Club featuring a laser light show, dance party and dance contests. It will be held each Tuesday in August beginning at 7 pm and concluding at 10:30 pm at the Emerald Isle Community Center Gym.  This summer series will bring a high energy, fun filled event that families will not soon forget. Check  for more details.

As Mayor I would like to take this opportunity to thank our EMS, Fire Department and Police Department  for their hard and dedicated work during the month of July.  Their response to the events in July was just outstanding. The way they worked together and cared for everyone was just so heartwarming.  I would also like to thank the other Fire Departments and EMS throughout our county for coming to our aid.  One of the great things about our community is how we work together to help one another out when emergencies arise. I witnessed first hand the marvelous way all units worked together. I would personally like to thank everyone for a job well done. Our entire town staff has been working so hard in the month of July. I would like to thank our Town Manager Frank Rush and his administrative staff for working overtime. We are a so fortunate in having a town staff that works together and puts our town first. I see their dedication and hard work each and every day. Sometimes we get busy and forget to say thank-you. If you see a member of the town staff, Police or Fire Departments, or EMS take the time to say “thank-you.” They are always working for us to serve and protect us.

I hope everyone enjoys the month of August. Spend time doing something for yourself. Spend time doing something for others. Take delight in the beautiful days of August. Enjoy the beach and be safe!
