Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative has developed a new online outage map (outage.carteretcraven.coop/). The map uses data from their Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters, their substation monitoring system, as well as consumer calls and reports, to show the location of outages in their system.
The map is a valuable tool for the co-op and its members, media organizations, local governments, schools, and emergency management and law enforcement agencies.
It also is designed to reduce calls to their call center during outage events. The map updates every five minutes and includes number of outages, number of consumers affected, cause of outage (when known), and estimated restoration time.
It is particularly useful during widespread outages, like those experienced during hurricanes and other severe weather events.
(NOTE: Except for major outages, weekend outage mapping will not be available until Sept. 1).
