Floyd Messer, Jr.


Floyd has served on the Emerald Isle Town Board, since being elected in November 2001. He became Mayor Pro-Tem in December 2003. He has been a homeowner and full-time resident since 1988.

A native of North Carolina, Floyd graduated from Nashville High School and attended both Atlantic Christian College and Campbell University. Prior to relocating to Emerald Isle, he lived in Farmville, North Carolina for 23 years.

Floyd owned and operated Ketterer Realty for fourteen years. His reputation for providing excellent service to his customers and homeowners have prepared him well for serving the entire Emerald Isle community as Commissioner.

He was appointed to serve on the Carteret County's Board of Adjustments in 1993, serving 12 years. He has served two terms as President of the Emerald Isle Business Association. Additionally, he has served as the City Executive for Bank of America in Morehead City as well as the Board of Directors of First Union National Bank in Farmville, North Carolina. He has held a North Carolina Real Estate Broker's License since 1988. Floyd was appointed by the Governor of North Carolina to serve as a Trustee at Carteret Community College and also served as Chairman of the Carteret Community College Foundation Board.

Floyd continues to enjoy retirement, golf and collector cars. He has four children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
