Emerald Tidings

September 2011

Emerald Isle Town Manager Frank Rush prepares the Emerald Tidings newsletter at the beginning of each month. He is unable to prepare the newsletter this month because his wife Suzanne is in the Cardiac Care ICU unit at Duke Hospital with congestive heart failure. She is receiving the best of care and please join us in keeping both of them in your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery.

This is an abbreviated newsletter covering a couple of current topics. Frank could be out for an extended time, so please contact Mitsy Overman, Assistant Town Manager, 252-354-3424 moverman@emeraldisle-nc.org or Art Schools, Mayor, 252-354-8546 aschools@ec.rr.com in Frank's absence. At this time, we have no idea how long he will be out.

Post Hurricane Irene Storm Related Information

Debris Pickup

Debris pickup started the Tuesday after Hurricane Irene. There are 4 crews working different sections of the Town. We expect that the first pass will be completed early next week. They will then begin going through the Town a second time. Be sure to keep vegetative debris separate from construction debris. They have to be delivered to different sites. There is no need to call Town Hall to get on the debris pickup list while we are picking up storm debris.

The debris (vegetative and construction) on Highway 58 (Emerald Drive) will be picked up by NCDOT. We do not know when they will start, but we are pushing for an early start date.

Mosquito Spraying

We are spraying for mosquitos between 11pm and 4am nightly when wind conditions are low enough. It takes approximately 3 nights to spray the entire Town, and because of unfavorable wind conditions, it will probably take longer than that.

In addition, the Town has free Mosquito Larvacide available for pick up by Emerald Isle property owners at our Public Works Department. Before you stop by to pick up however, you must first call our Public Works Department at 252-354-4450.
