Job Title: Equipment Operator

Position Information:  Full-Time

The Town of Emerald Isle Public Works Department is seeking a self-motivated individual for the full-time position of Equipment Operator. Duties for any Public Works position involve performing a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, litter pick-up, building and vehicle maintenance, beach cleaning and maintenance, street, street sign and right-of-way maintenance. Electrical experience preferred. Plumbing experience preferred. Equipment experience preferred (mower, tractor, backhoe, Trash Loader, etc). Working knowledge of power tools and ability to perform light construction and repair preferred.  This position reports directly to the Public Works Director and the qualified applicant should be able to perform these duties with minimal supervision. This position will operate on a 40 hour work week that may include Saturday and Sunday. Individual should be clean and professional. High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Valid NC Class A CDL or ability to obtain same within 6 months required. Job Title: Finance Technician / Administrative Support Specialist
Department:  Administration
Salary Range: $35,808 - $52,996
Position Information:  Full-Time

The Town of Emerald Isle is seeking a professional to join our team as a Finance Technician / Administrative Support Specialist in the Administration Department.

This full-time position performs professional services in the Administration Department.  Work involves assisting the Finance Director with daily operations including accounts payable and payroll processing, municipal budgetary functions, capital asset recording, insurance programs, performing complex analysis, preparing and maintaining general ledger and financial records, preparing financial reports, and customer service.  Work requires thorough knowledge of governmental accounting practices and procedures, fund accounting and fiscal management.  Employee uses federal and state regulations and reference materials, Town policies, procedures and budgets, and principles of governmental accounting in the performance of their work.  Independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in completing assignments must be exercised in the performance of the work.  Must utilize excellent customer service skills and tact in dealing with citizens and employees in a fast-paced municipal office environment.

Preferred education and experience:  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university; 3-5 years related experience in accounting; strong computer skills; must be bondable.  Salary range:  $35,808 - $52,996 depending on experience and qualifications.  Excellent benefits package includes:  NC State Retirement, 401k, health, dental, vision, life.

Job Title:  Part-Time Firefighter
Department:  Fire
Starting Rate:  $11.78 hr.
Position Information:  Part-Time


The Town of Emerald Isle spans over 12 miles of beautiful beaches and is surrounded by crystal clear water.  Our permanent population is 3,700 with our summer population exceeding 35,000.  The Fire Department employs part-time firefighters to cover various shifts and events, this employment is as needed to fill shift vacancies.

Key Requirements

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Ability to obtain NC Class B Driver’s License
  • Must be certified NC Firefighter II
  • Must be certified Hazardous Materials Responder I
  • Must be certified NC EMT


  • Perform general duties to include firefighting and water rescue emergencies
  • Participates in ongoing training courses within and outside of the department to include drills and classroom instruction
  • Requires emergency medical response to the district
  • Ability to provide excellent communication skills when conversing with the public and employees
  • Ability to drive and operate apparatus
  • Perform daily apparatus, water equipment, and medical equipment and station duties/checks.

The Town of Emerald Isle is seeking applicants for the positions of part-time Police Officer.  Applicants must be 21 years of age, be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.  Applicant must also be a graduate of BLET, and possess or be eligible for N.C.
