Heavy Rains Forecasted: Flooding is a potential

July 7, 2020

The 5-day weather forecast for Emerald Isle, NC indicates heavy and persistent rains throughout the remainder of the week (July 7 – 11, 2020).  Since late May 2020, the Town has received greater than 22” of rainfall.  The water table is very high and soils remain saturated.

Flooding of roadways, yards, and low-lying areas is a potential.

The Emerald Isle Public Works Department has taken every precaution to prepare for the advancing storm:

  • Town maintained lines and drainage areas have been inspected/cleared.
  • Stormwater pumps and generators are tested/working.
  • Mobile pumps are on standby and will be dispatched as needed.

The Town’s stormwater infrastructure is in good working order.  Unfortunately, heavy and persistent rains may create unavoidable localized flooding.  Property owners, in historically impacted areas, should consider taking action and move items to higher ground when possible.

Be prepared & remain safe!
