Hurricane Dorian Update #9- Thur., Sept. 5, 2019 (9:00 PM)

Hurricane Dorian is making its way to through North Carolina.  The next 24-hours will be the most critical for the Town of Emerald Isle. 

Mandatory Evacuation & Curfew

Emerald Isle remains under a MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER and town wide curfew.  Only essential personnel (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.) are legally permitted on public roadways at this time.

Please note, the local curfew is in effect until further notice.  Residents are asked to remain sheltered in place until Town Officials deem it safe to travel about the island.

Winds

Life threatening winds and wind damage are expected overnight, resulting in downed trees, power, and communication outages.

Storm Surge/ Inundation

Life threatening storm surge inundation is expected.  Low-lying roadways may become inundated and impassable.  Be prepared for very rapid water level rises on the sound, especially as the center of the storm passes!

Flooding

Prolonged periods of heavy rainfall are expected overnight, which can lead to flash flooding and water covered roads.  Do not drown, turn around!

Emerald Isle Offices- Closed Friday

All non-essential municipal offices will be closed Friday Sept. 6 due to the threat of Hurricane Dorian.
