January 2015

I would like to begin by thanking everyone for all their hard work in making Christmas a wonderful time in Emerald Isle.  First a big thanks to the Emerald Isle Business Association for an outstanding Christmas Parade.  The parade was under the direction of Don Wells and Don did a fantastic job in getting the parade organized.  Thanks to all the volunteers who made the parade a success.  A Mayor from another town said it was the largest crowd of any parade in Carteret County in the last 6 years.  Thanks for a job well done.

I would also like to thank Colonel Monclova and the Neighborhood Watch Committee for hosting a dinner for our Police Department in December.   It was a fun evening for our outstanding Police Department.

I would like to thank our Churches for their leadership in filling shoe boxes for children around the world.  It was a wonderful day in Emerald isle as we sent hundreds of shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts for boys and girls through Samaritans Purse. I was so proud of the way our two Island Churches, Chapel by the Sea and Emerald Isle Baptist reached out with open hearts to kids around the world.  I can only imagine the joy, excitement, and wonder as these children open their own shoe box filled with gifts of love.  Thanks to everyone who brought by goodies to the town administration building.  Your gifts of love overwhelmed us each and every day.

January brings cold weather and the threat of snow and ice but January also means the days are getting longer and sunset is a little later each day.  January affords us the opportunity to look forward to another year of new beginnings and new opportunities. I have taken up walking and try to walk four to five miles each day. I love walking outside when the air is crisp and the skies are a bright blue. The Duke fans call it a Duke Blue and the Carolina fans call it a Carolina Blue.  Whatever you call it the sky is a beautiful blue.  As I walk in the early mornings or late afternoons I always look forward to walking by the homes that have a wood burning fireplace and smell the beautiful aroma of a wood burning fire. Walking gives me the chance to think out loud and to give God the blessings for all the gifts bestowed upon me.  So if you see me talking to myself please know that I am okay.  It is my time to give thanks.

I wish you and your family a Happy New Year.  As we begin a New Year lets us all move forward to new opportunities and new ways to help each other.  Yes, January is a time of moving forward and putting the past behind us.  May God Bless You in 2015.
