July 2005

Here we are in the middle of another busy summer. Our Town Staff and local businesses have been busy getting things in shape for our residents, second homeowners, and visitors. We hope you are able to spend a lot of time in Emerald Isle this summer and either just relax, or enjoy the many activities available in the area. Be sure to check out the newly renovated Visitors Center just before you come into Emerald Isle to get information on the many things to do in our area. The staff there is very helpful, and I am sure you will learn something you didn't know.

One of the great things about Emerald Isle are the great residents that join together to explore an area of interest. The latest is the Emerald Eye Photography Club. Several residents of Land's End recently formed the Emerald Eye Photography Club.  After three monthly meetings, the club continues to grow with 24 members. Past meetings have included basic photography workshops and photo contests.  Future meetings will include more techniques, tips, guest speakers, and local photo field trips.  The club meets the first Thursday of every month at the Lands End clubhouse.  The next meeting will be held August 4th at 6:30 pm.  The club welcomes new members so if you are interested please contact Jim Waller at 252-354-7517. All skill levels are welcome.

We have had rotating art exhibits in the Town Hall Board Room for a little over three years. Ann Ross, one of our many fine local artists, has coordinated this effort. I want to thank Ann for the wonderful job she has done. Ann is spending more time out of town, and asked that we find another coordinator. I am please to say that Linda Anderson, another of our fine local artists, stepped forward and offered to coordinate the exhibits. Linda has lined up photographers Jim Waller and Kathy Johnson for July and August;  acrylic artist Christa Pautz for September and October; and acrylic artist Bob Smith for November and December. Please stop by and check out the work. You will be pleased that you did. If you would like to exhibit your work in the Town Hall Board Room, please contact Linda at 252-354-5693. We have had several second homeowners exhibit their work and we would like to have more.

I look forward to seeing many of you this summer that I have not seen over the winter. If you see me out, and want to chat about town business or things in general, please stop me. I can always be reached at home 252-354-2916, and frequently on the beach or the golf course.
