If you are a “hands on” community-minded person, I have great news for you. Steve Finch is organizing the Crystal Coast Civitan Club for the western part of the county. I frequently am asked, “How can I get involved in community projects?” This is a perfect way for men or women of all ages to help their community, meet new people, and have a good time.
Steve Finch is the lead organizer for the new club. He first came to Emerald in the 1960’s with his parents and says “The Crystal Coast to me is not only the best place to visit but the very best place to live”. He and his wife Robin bought a place in Emerald Isle in 1999 and moved to Emerald Isle permanently in 2006. If you haven’t met Steve, you probably know his brother Curt Finch at the bookstore. Steve was a member of the South Raleigh Civitan Club for 10 years, were he served as President of the club and Lt Governor for the District. Robin was also active in the South Raleigh Civitan Club. We are very fortunate to have someone with Steve’s Civitan experience to start a Civitan Club in our area.
Civitan is an all-volunteer international service organization of more than 55,000 men, women, and teenagers in 28 nations working together in community clubs to help those less fortunate than themselves. Civitan clubs provide a great deal of service to their communities, with emphasis on aid to people with developmental disabilities, youth leadership development, and good citizenship. Through Civitan, club members discover the best in themselves and in others. Civitan gives its members an opportunity to be involved in helping others, develop new friendships, and gain valuable leadership skills which can be used in all aspects of life.
Organizational meetings will be held at MacDaddy’s in Cape Carteret at 6:30 PM for dinner every Tuesday in June (June, 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30). Once organized, the club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at MacDaddy’s at 6:30 PM for dinner. Please plan to attend at least one of the organizational meetings, and come with your suggestions for local projects for the club. For more information about Civitan membership, please call Steve at 252-354-5208 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please plan to attend one of the organizational meetings and learn. You will be glad you did.
