The Town was fortunate to have excellent community participation and input when the Town's current Land Use Plan was developed and ultimately adopted by the Board of Commissioners in 2004. The Town has diligently relied on the 2004 plan to guide various land use and community improvement decisions for the past 11 years, and will soon begin a new process that will culminate in an updated 2017 Land Use Plan.
The Board of Commissioners is expected to approve a contract with a planning consultant in January 2016, and will also appoint a Land Use Plan Steering Committee comprised of Emerald Isle residents, second homeowners, and business owners at that time. The planning process is expected to begin soon thereafter, with a goal for the Board of Commissioners to adopt a new plan in early 2017. There will be multiple opportunities for public input during the process, and we hope everyone will share their vision and goals for Emerald Isle in the future.
