The Friends of Western Carteret Public Library are hosting an author luncheon event featuring award-winning author Philip Gerard on Monday, October 3, from 12 noon until 3 pm. The event will be held at Western Park Community Center, 275 Old Highway 58, Cedar Point, NC. Mr. Gerard is a professor and teacher at UNC-Wilmington where he created the Master of Fine Arts Program in creative writing. He will discuss his latest book, The Dark of the Island, as well as the path which led him from his upbringing in Delaware to UNC-W and his fascination with North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Dark of the Island weaves two intriguing stories through time and space along Hatteras Island, from WWII German saboteurs to modern-day politics of off-shore oil drilling.
Tickets are $25 and include lunch catered by Class Act Catering. Tickets can be purchased at the Western Carteret Public Library, from Friends board members, or directly from Diane Schools (252-354-2916). Free parking is available.
