Great news about new, expanded, and relocated businesses in Emerald Isle. The Irish Pirate Trading Company is expanding again and adding a Pub. They started in Emerald Plantation Shopping Center in March 2011, doubled the size an 2012, and this year are expanding again. The new location is in Emerald Plantation Shopping Center across from Rucker Johns. They will have additional retail space and the big news is they will be adding a 20 seat pub.
Yeti Ice Company will be occupying some of the Irish Pirate’s old space. They will be serving shaved ice with a wide variety of flavor toppings. Lease negotiations are under way for the remainder of the old Irish Pirate space.
Also in Emerald Plantation, Patrick and Nick Sheets are opening “The Shark’s Den – Sports Bar and Grill” in the space next to the movie theatre. They will have 75 seats and will be serving everything from chicken wings to steak. They will have plenty of TVs on the wall but will also have TVs at the tables that will be controlled by that table. There will be a VIP area that will seat about 10 and will have a large screen TV dedicated to that area.
4 J’s (Beans and Screens) will be moving across Emerald Drive from Emerald Plantation to space next to El Zarape. This will provide 4 Js with expanded space but will hopefully enable Joe Sardone (one of the 4 Js) to combine his coffee shop and bakery operations. His bakery operation is located in Newport which does not allow Joe to efficiently use his time. He is still going through the approval process but hopefully will have both operations at his new location. For sure his present coffee shop will be located next to El Zarape’s.
Highway 58 Bicycles will be expanding and moving one store to the east of their present location on Reed Drive. They took over the space formerly occupied by A Flair for Hair. This will allow them to have a retail store and rental store connected by a doorway. With 200+ rental bikes and 300+ new bikes, they should be able to meet everyone’s bicycle needs.
Flip Flops Gift Shop is moving back to their original location at 3305 Emerald Drive. Same great gifts and Marci is always coming up with the newest trend. Marci and Ritchie will also be operating Flip Flops Mini Mart at the same location. They will be selling gas and will be serving Marci’s famous chicken salad from their deli/grill.
Dollar General will be opening next to Flip Flops on Emerald Drive. The store occupies a little over 9,000 sq ft which is a little bigger than their traditional store. I am very pleased with the exterior design of the building which includes offset arches, contrasting colors, and bahama shutters.
As mentioned in one of my earlier articles, Fran’s Beachgear was purchased by Aqua Beachwear out of Sanibel Florida. This is their 17th store and will retain the Fran’s name. Merchandise will change a little with a concentration on women’s swim wear. The same friendly staff will continue to serve you.
And last but not least, Goomba’s has opened on Bogue Inlet Drive near the pier. They will be serving hotdogs, hamburgers and similar items mostly to walkup clientele.
Each of the above businesses will be opening at different times. Some by March 1, and others not until mid-May. By all indications this looks like the beginning of a good year for Emerald Isle businesses.
