Just finished another great weekend in Emerald Isle. We had 11 travel writers visiting the Crystal Coast this weekend. The Tourism Authority’s PR firm, “The Zimmerman Agency” coordinated the four day event. As Chairman of the Tourism Authority, Diane and I spent time with them kayaking, dining, and visiting different parts of the county. As a result of their visit, we expect to see them publish articles about the Crystal Coast some time during the next year or so. Look at www.usairwaysmag.com to see a current example of an article about the Crystal Coast. The Crystal Coast is profiled in the US Airways magazine during the month of May and will be on the backs of all US Air flights. I was impressed with the amount and quality of coverage that we got. 50% of the county occupancy tax money is spent for beach nourishment activities, and 50% is spent for advertising and promotion of tourism. Inviting travel writers to the Crystal Coast and showing them the area, is a great way to stretch advertising dollars. Check out www.crystalcoastnc.org to view the Tourism Authority’s web site.
As I am sure you have heard, the Town of Emerald Isle is partnering with the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium to build a pier at the Eastern Ocean Regional Access. Check out www.ncaquariums.com/pks/employment.htm for volunteer opportunities. It is certainly a worthwhile cause and a lot of fun too. Also check out www.emeraldisle-nc.org/volunteers for other volunteer opportunities in the area. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and to help the community.
Lastly, don’t forget about the Brick Fundraiser program to raise funds for additional EMS equipment/furnishings. The new EMS building is coming along nicely, and this is a great way to be a part of the project and show your support for EMS, past, present, and future. Look at www.emeraldisle-nc.org/brick for details or call Kelly Gamble at 252-354-3424 for information.
