I can’t believe it is August already. Summer is flying by.  I hope everyone is having a great summer and enjoying the warm and beautiful days in Emerald Isle. August is a great month to enjoy the beach and spend time with family and friends. If you have not attended EmeraldFest on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm I invite you to do so.  EmeraldFest is a fun way to spend your Thursday evening at 6:30 pm.  The attendance has been great and the music has just been fantastic. It is held at the Western Regional Beach Access. Bring a chair or a blanket come out for an evening of fun. The schedule for August is:

       August 3: Pure T Mommicked  ( Rock/ Alternative)

August 10: Scearce & Ketner    (Hometown Seagrass)

August 20: Naked Knees (What a Party Sounds Like)

       August 24:  Justin Castellano (Eclectic)

In addition to EmeraldFest each Thursday Night at 6:30 pm, Swansboro has SwanFest which is also a free concert each Sunday night at 6:30 pm at the Pavilion in Olde Towne Square.

The 3rd annual Do It For Drew 5k Color Run in Emerald isle will take place on Saturday, August 5 beginning at 7:30 am. The route will take you on a scenic tour of the sound side of the island. Along the way you will be dusted with the bright colors that remind us of how bright and happy Drew Hughes always was, and is in our hearts.  Your participation in and support of this event will help the Do It For Drew Foundation save lives and make a positive difference in so many more. Registration is $25.

The Carteret County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive at the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Community Center on Friday, August 18. The hours will be from 2-7 pm. Please support this endeavor. Please give the gift of life.

The Emerald Isle EMS will have a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 19 from 7-11 am. The cost of the breakfast is $5 per person. The menu is 3 pancakes with 2 pieces of sausage and includes juice, coffee, milk or water. The breakfast will be held in the EMS building. Please come out and support the EMS.

Just a reminder that our beach music festival will be held on Saturday, September 30 at the Western Regional Beach Access.  Please join us as we welcome Sammy O’ Banion, The Fantastic Shakers, Band of Oz, Too Much Sylvia, The Embers and Chairman of the Board. Mark this date on your calendar. The festival starts at 11 am.

As Mayor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our first responders. Our Lifeguards, Police, Fire and EMS have done an outstanding job this summer. The way they work together is just fantastic. We are blessed to have such a wonderful group of dedicated people. I would personally like to thank everyone for a job well done. I know I am speaking for all our citizens in saying a BIG THANK YOU!!!

I hope you enjoy the month of August. Take time to enjoy our beautiful island. Spend time doing something for others and yourself. Enjoy the beach and be safe!

Eddie
