Mayors Island Review

December 2017

December is such a wonderful and happy month.  It is just a great time to be with family and friends.  I think December is one of my favorite months of the year.  I just enjoy the festive spirit.  There are many wonderful opportunities in our town and community in December.

On the first Saturday in December, Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation will host the 6th Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair in the Emerald Isle Community Center gymnasium.  The date will be on Saturday, December 2 from 8am to 4pm.  The fair will feature all handmade or hand-authenticated items from local artisans.  With over 30 vendors, you are sure to find just the right gift for everyone on your Christmas list.  The Croatan High School Band will be on site with concessions.  This promises to be a great way to buy that special gift.

Our ever popular Santa and a Movie will take place on Friday, December 8 at 6pm.  Children of all ages join Santa for a Christmas story after enjoying milk and cookies and watching a short Christmas movie classic.  Santa’s helper, Isabel the Elf will be joining us this year for some fun.  Kids are encouraged to wear their most comfy Christmas pajamas.  Please bring a blanket for your family to sit on during the movie.  This popular event will take place at our gymnasium.  The admission fee is one unwrapped gift per child.  You must pre-register by Thursday, December 7.  Space fills up fast.

The Emerald Isle Supper Club will meet on Thursday, December 7 from 6:30-8pm at the Town Board Meeting Room.  Please bring a potluck dish of your choice to share.  All Emerald Isle residents and guests are welcome to take a break and enjoy a fun evening.  You are asked to bring a Toy for Tots.

The 5th Annual Crystal Coast Hospice House Gingerbread Festival will be held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center December 8-10.  This event is for Christmas lovers, gingerbread enthusiasts, master sculptors, kids, youth and adults and candy connoisseurs of all ages.  Enter your edible masterpiece in the competition to benefit SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House and, of course, for a chance to win great prizes and revel in that “gingerbread feeling”.  Visit the Crystal Coast Hospice House Gingerbread Festival website www.crystalcoasthospicehouse.org/gingerbread-festival-2017  for a complete schedule of events.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas.  May you experience the love, joy and peace of this Holy Season.

Eddie
