MEMO TO: Mayor Barber and Board of Commissioners
FROM: Frank A. Rush, Jr., Town Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing Sale of Surplus Items
The Board of Commissioners is asked to approve the attached resolution authorizing the sale of several surplus items that are no longer useful for Town government operations at the January 12 meeting. Upon approval by the Board, these items will be posted on www.GovDeals.com, the online auction site used by the Town, and sold to the highest bidder.
The most significant item included in the attached resolution is a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck recently replaced by the Public Works Department. This truck is 11 years old with approximately 122,000 miles, has been used heavily on the beach strand, and is in need of brake and drivetrain repairs. The other most significant item is a group of 32 concrete hog slats (each 4 ft. x 10 ft.) that were initially used in the construction of the NC 58 bicycle path in eastern Emerald Isle but were later removed. The hog slats have been stored on a vacant Town-owned parcel adjacent to the Emerald Isle Public Boating Access Area for the past year, and the Town does not have any beneficial use for the hog slats.
The other items included in the attached resolution are small, miscellaneous items used by various Town departments, including old furniture, an old generator, old treadmill, and other items that are no longer used or not functional, and are likely of minimal value.
I recommend approval of the attached resolution.
