MEMO TO: Mayor Barber and Board of Commissioners
FROM: Frank A. Rush, Jr., Town Manager
SUBJECT: Budget Amendment – General Fund (Yard Debris Collection)
The Board of Commissioners is asked to approve the attached General Fund budget amendment to appropriate additional funds for yard debris collection services, to recognize donations received for the purchase and installation of rescue tubes at public beach access locations, and to cover a minor cost overrun in the final accounting for the Welcome Center project.
The attached budget amendment includes total additional appropriations of $40,299, to be funded by higher than anticipated revenues and donations. As noted in the attached memo from Laura Rotchford, Finance Director, the bulk of this amount ($29,000) is associated with yard debris truck rental expenses and significant repairs to the Town’s (original) yard debris collection truck. As you know, the Town has struggled to keep up with the exploding demand for these services in recent months, and without the expenditure of funds for the rental truck it would not have been possible to keep up with demand.
This budget amendment is consistent with prior communication to the Board regarding this issue, and now that the Town’s new (second) truck is now in service, I recommend approval of the attached budget amendment.
