Dear Emerald Isle-
As spring arrives and the weather warms, the number of visitors to Emerald Isle will increase. In normal times, this would be a welcomed sight. These are not normal times.
In unison with Carteret County and neighboring towns, Mayor Eddie Barber declared a State of Emergency for Emerald Isle on March 19, 2020.
Carteret County and the municipality of Emerald Isle released public statements to discourage tourist travel to the Crystal Coast. For a community anchored in hospitality, this is a very difficult message to send and share.
Emerald Isle has closed our public beach access parking lots, all public restrooms, and suspended beach driving access until further notice.
A special thank you to those that live, work, and/or own property on Emerald Isle. We are certainly glad you are here.
The highest priority for the Town of Emerald Isle is the health and safety of our community. So we ask that you adhere to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) recent recommendations.

As a community, we understand being prepared for a hurricane. COVID-19 is our potential silent hurricane of the season. Social (physical) Distancing is paramount. Together, we can weather a silent Cat 1 storm better than a Cat 5.
The Town of Emerald Isle
