November 2008

My wife, Diane, has been busy organizing the 5th Annual Christmas Parade sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association and the Town of Emerald Isle. It will be another fun event, so please plan to attend. The parade will take place Saturday November 29 at 4 PM, CVS to Town Hall. If you would like to be in the parade, call Diane at 252-354-2916. We are always looking for new interesting entries, and we have some this year.

The EMS building was dedicated to George Foster on November 8. George passed away several years ago. He was one of those people that helped give Emerald Isle a sense of community through his volunteer efforts with EMS and his willingness to help everyone in his daily life. All of the bricks have been installed thanks to the donation of time and materials by Yardworks, one of our fine local companies that support the community. EMS Chief Doug Fleming sent me a letter thanking all of you for your participation in the project. The funds raised in the project were used to replace long outdated furnishings and computer equipment. Stop by and take a look. The EMS staff welcomes the opportunity to show you around.

In late October, we broke ground on the new Town Hall next to Emerald Isle Realty. The exterior design will be similar to the EMS building with completion expected summer 2009. The Town made a sincere effort to disturb as little natural area as possible to accommodate the building, parking, stormwater retention, and septic field. Rather than spread out over the entire four lots that the town owns at that site, we felt that the better choice was to disturb as little area as possible and leave two of the lots in their natural state. I am excited about the project and look forward to its completion.

Last, but not least, Mac Daddy’s in Cape Carteret is now open and getting rave reviews. It is a bowling alley, video arcade, sports bar, and place for birthday parties and business meetings all in one place. It is definitely first class and has something for everyone. Mac Holz, owner, was recently awarded the Chris Smith Memorial Award for Outstanding Adult-male with a Disability. Stop by and congratulate Mac on his well deserved award and check out the facility. He would love to see you. Mac Daddy’s in combination with Golfin Dolphin provides an entertainment complex second to none for the size of our community and towns much larger than ours.

Have a great Thanksgiving and I hope to see all of you at the parade on Saturday November 29, at 4 PM (CVS to Town Hall).
