On Sunday May 30 and Monday, May 31, 2021, the Town of Emerald Isle experienced an issue with its paid parking system. The Town of Emerald Isle and its subcontractor (NCParking) take this issue very seriously.
Emerald Isle maintains two fully-improved paid public parking facilities; the Western Ocean Regional Access (WORA) and the Eastern Ocean Regional Access (EORA). From April 1 through September 30, the town charges for paid parking at these sites between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The hourly rate ranges from $2.00 to $4.00 per hour, based upon the day of week and time of season. Holiday and peak visitation periods are capped at $4.00 per hour with a 4-hour maximum, or $16.00 for an entire day.
Two of five convenience kiosk machines were programmed to charge $6.00 per hour. A total of 209 customers were impacted by the unauthorized rate.
Once aware of the programming issue, Emerald Isle officials and its subcontractor (NCParking) took immediate action to rectify the issue. Each of the 209 impacted customers have been electronically refunded.
Thank you to each and every guest that visited Emerald Isle during the Memorial Day weekend. In order to assure that no one was incorrectly charged, every paid parking transaction made at the WORA and EORA on May 30-31, 2021 is being refunded at 100 percent. Thus, a total of 751 customers will receive a full refund for parking at the WORA or EORA on May 30 or May 31, 2021.
Depending upon the type of credit or debit card used, a refund may take 1-12 days to appear on the respective customer’s transaction history.
NCParking takes full responsibility for this operational error and has put additional controls and processes in place to ensure that this type of event never happens again.
Again, we sincerely apologize for this issue and the inconvenience it has caused. In the event you have a question or concern, please contact Town Manager Matt Zapp at email@example.com or by phone at 252-354-3424.
