The Planning and Inspections Office is responsible for a number of functions within the Town of Emerald Isle. The Department works with the Carteret County Planning and Inspections Department.
The Town's department conducts studies and makes recommendations to manage the long-term growth and sustainability of the Town. Staff administers current planning activities, such as reviewing site plans, rezoning and interpreting the Unified Development Ordinance and other Town Codes. The Department enforces violations of the Town Code and other state and federal regulations, for which the Town has been delegated responsibility. Staff also assists new and existing businesses in Emerald Isle.
Town Planning Director
Josh has served as the Town Planning Director since April 2015. He holds a BS in Urban and Regional Planning and a certificate in continuing education in Grant Administration and Public Management from East Carolina University. Josh is a North Carolina Certified Zoning Official through the North Carolina Association of Zoning Officials. He began his work in the local government planning field in 2007 with Edgecombe County before assuming the role of Planning Director for the Town of Tarboro in 2012.
Josh and his wife Lauren moved to Emerald Isle in April 2015 after vacationing here all their lives. They have three sons, Sawyer, Brody and Finn. Josh and his family attend One Harbor Church and enjoy tailgating for Pirate football and spending as much time as possible on their boat and the sandbar.
