Press Release - 2020 Summer Day Camp Cancelled

The Town of Emerald Isle remains under a State of Emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus while maintaining essential services, the Town has implemented several operational changes to ensure social and physical distance and limit exposure for our residents and guests.

On May 5th, Governor Roy Cooper modified North Carolina’s Stay At Home Executive Order, transitioning the state to Phase 1 of slowly easing COVID-19 restrictions. Under the modified order, day camps may open if they meet new requirements to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

After careful staff review and conversations with various Parks & Recreation professionals in the area the recommendation to cancel the 2020 Summer Day Camp Program was made by staff and approved by the Board of Commissioners.

The health and safety of those in our summer day camp program as well as valued staff members is of utmost importance to the Town of Emerald Isle. Recommended guidelines for operation cannot be maintained currently nor in the foreseeable future for our Summer Day Camp.
