During the weekend of May 2-3, 2020, beach activity was high due to warm and beautiful weather. As a result, many citizens attempted to use the Golf Cart parking area at James Street & Ocean Drive.
Unfortunately, construction improvements at this site are not 100% complete. The Town of Emerald Isle apologizes for the inconvenience.
Replacement of the wooden boardwalk is delayed. The contractor is behind schedule, due in part to CV-19, and the impacted availability of certain hardware.
ACTION STEP 1:
The Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Department installed temporary post and rope markers on Monday May 4, 2020.
NOTE: This step is only a stop-gap measure, to reduce illegal golf-cart parking.
ACTION STEP 2:
The Town of Emerald Isle will work to complete the project as designed, to include:
7 regular parking spaces, 1 handicap space, a bike rack, public trash receptacle, and post-n-rope barrier to separate the sidewalk and golf cart parking.
The project was originally scheduled for completion during the winter months of 2020.
The adjusted target completion goal is June 1, 2020.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your cooperation when using the James Street Golf Cart parking area.
