Town Mourns Passing of Former Commissioner Tom Hoover, Jr.

Former Town Commissioner Tom Hoover, Jr. passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018.  He was 75 years old.  All of us at the Town of Emerald Isle are saddened by his passing, and will miss his deep care and concern for our wonderful community.

Commissioner Hoover served the Town of Emerald Isle diligently for many years, beginning with a term on the Planning Board (1993 - 1995), followed by his initial service on the Board of Commissioners (1995-1999).  He then returned to the Board of Commissioners in 2006, serving for 9 more years (2006 - 2015).  Commissioner Hoover made numerous valuable contributions to the Town over the years, most notably a prominent role in the initiation and development of the County's and the Town's beach nourishment efforts. Emerald Isle is a much better place as a result of Commissioner Hoover's thoughtful insights, wisdom, and dedicated service.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized, but will be provided by Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City, NC - .
