Tropical Storm Elsa: Message No. 2

July 6, 2021

The National Weather Service - Newport/Morehead City office released the following statement concerning Tropical Storm Elsa on the morning of Tuesday, July 6, 2021:

"The forecast from the National Hurricane Center for Tropical Storm Elsa has the storm weakening to a depression as it approaches and moves through Central and Eastern NC. However, this does not diminish some of the impacts that Eastern NC may experience Thursday into Thursday evening.

Heavy rain with localized flash flooding is possible, with up to several inches of rain in heavier downpours. Isolated severe thunderstorms including a few tornadoes are possible. Gusty winds up to tropical storm strength may occur. Also, high surf and dangerous rip currents will be a threat.

Feel free to follow the National Hurricane Center and our local Tropical Website."

The Town of Emerald Isle recommends being prepared for a named storm before it arrives in our area. You can find our 2021 Hurricane Preparedness videos, along with other storm information and advice on our website: https://www.emeraldisle-nc.org/hurricane-information.
