The Town of Emerald Isle along with its contractor, Simmons & Simmons, places stickers on trash receptacles which are no longer properly operable. Replacing these trashcans allows for our hardworking team to maintain efficiency and sanitation during the busy summer months. Below is some helpful information regarding trashcan replacement. 

Acquiring New Containers: The Town does not sell the containers. They should be purchased at Sound ACE Hardware (about $140), located in the Emerald Plantation Shopping Center or at Lowe’s Home Improvement (about $124), located in Cape Carteret. Residents are responsible for the cost of replacement. You may purchase your container from another store as long as it is compatible with the style of containers pictured, and compatible with the trash truck. 

Disposing of Old Containers: To dispose of your old receptacle, simply place a note on it and set it out with your regular trash pickup. It will be disposed of at no additional charge.  

Additional Information: All residential units are required to use standard black or green 65-gallon or 96-gallon roll-out containers. Those who are physically unable to use 65-gallon or 96-gallon containers can receive authorization to use standard 40-gallon containers for residential refuse. A doctor's note or handicapped parking card is required to receive authorization to use standard 40-gallon containers. These individuals are urged to contact Town Hall for this special authorization.
