MEETING RECAP: November 12, 2024 - Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting

During the Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners meeting on November 12, 2024, the following actions were taken.

NOTE: Official minutes will be produced, reviewed, and approved at the next open public BOC meeting.

• The Board unanimously voted to excuse Commissioner Sawyer from the meeting. 
• Public Comment was held with five commenters. 
• A video played showing public announcements and Town happenings. 
• Mayor Holland recognized the retirement of Parks & Rec employee, Jerry Talton. 
• Evan Fleming was welcomed as EI’s newest Firefighter/Paramedic. 
• Mayor Holland reviewed follow-ups to public comments from the October 8, 2024 Board of Commissioners meeting and paper copies were available. 
• The Board unanimously approved the Consent Agenda with an amendment to push “Item 9c: October 31, 2024 Special BOC Meeting Minutes” to the December 10, 2024 agenda for review. 
• The Board unanimously voted to table their continued discussions related to the Notice of Violation Process, as it pertains to Dunes & Vegetation, Tree Removal, and Home Occupation Permit Violations to the December 10, 2024 Board meeting. 
• The Board unanimously approved the asphalt paving of six priority roads to be paid for using Powell Bill funds and to table the paving and striping of Coast Guard Road, potentially to the next cycle, and until the Board can discuss funding options. 
• The Board unanimously accepted the June 30, 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report after a presentation of the Town’s Annual Audit review by Finance Director Laura Rotchford. 
• The Board unanimously voted to move forward with a DOT permit application for construction of a flagpole in the Hwy 58 Roundabout using Browder Engineering. Local non-profit, EI for Veterans, volunteered to pay for the application process.
• The Board instructed the Town Attorney to conduct legal reviews on recent Unified Development Ordinance issues for the December 10, 2024 Board meeting.
