MEETING RECAP: February 11, 2025 - Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting

During the Emerald Isle Board of Commissioners meeting on February 11, 2025, the following actions were taken. 

NOTE: Official minutes will be produced, reviewed, and approved at the next open public BOC meeting.

  • Commissioner Sawyer was absent and unanimously excused.
  • Public Comment was held with four commenters from 6:02 to 6:15 PM.
  • Mayor Holland reviewed follow-ups to public comments from the January 14, 2025 Board of Commissioners meeting and paper copies were available.
  • The Board unanimously adopted the agenda.
  • A video played showing public announcements and Town happenings. 
  • Mayor Holland recognized Fire Captain, Stuart Gilgo for his 20 years of service to the Town of Emerald Isle. Gilgo was not present.
  • Chief Panzarella recognized Officer Jordan Hatfield for advancing to Police Officer 1.
  • The Board unanimously approved the Consent Agenda.
  • The Board voted to adopt the original drafted minutes of their December 10, 2024 meeting without edits.
  • The Board voted to postpone appointments to the Bike & Pedestrian Committee and the Golf Cart Advisory Committee until the April 8, 2025 Board of Commissioners meeting to receive feedback from existing members about the committees’ mission, goals, effectiveness, and possible restructuring or dissolvement. 
  • Jim Normile was reelected to the EI Parks and Recreation Association, Inc. Mayor Holland read a memo explaining the background and purpose of this association. 
  • The Board voted to advertise for a public hearing regarding potential UDO code changes due to the 2024 Short Session legislative actions.
  • The Board voted to advertise for a public hearing regarding potential UDO code changes for stormwater requirements related to large scale residential Developments where the ground disturbance exceeds 10,000 square feet.
  • The Board adopted a Resolution of Support for updating the 2016 Beach and Inlet Management Plan (BIMP) by the North Carolina Beach, Inlet, and Waterway Association.
  • The Board went into a closed session at 6:56 PM. Mayor Holland stated that the Board would go back into an open session to immediately adjourn at the conclusion of the closed session.
