Biography
Assistant Chief of Police, Chad Edwards has worked in law enforcement since 2003 and joinedthe Emerald Isle Police Department in 2022.
Education
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science inCriminal Justice: Homeland Security and was a member of Alpha Phi Sigma.
Career
Assistant Chief Edwards began his career as a full-time officer with the Washington, NC Police Department where he was promoted to Assistant Unit Supervisor and implemented a Bicycle Patrol Unit for the waterfront neighborhoods and business district. In 2006, he began working for the East Carolina University Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant in the Patrol Division. In addition to this role, he worked as a department trainer and instructed in areas such as firearms, rapid deployment, and DWI investigations. He was the department coordinator for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program and instructed new recruits in the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at Pitt Community College.
Assistant Chief Edwards is a Specialized Firearms Instructor for the State of North Carolina, and an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Instructor. He is a graduate of the West Point Leadership Program through Methodist University, Milco Training Solutions Command Institute for Law Enforcement Executives, and holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission.
