Emerald Isle, NC- The Town of Emerald Isle is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Seaberg as the new Director of Planning. Seaberg will assume his responsibilities on January 2, 2024. 

With an impressive background in urban planning and a commitment to fostering sustainable growth, Seaberg brings a wealth of experience to our community. His proven track record in strategic planning, community engagement, and innovative development solutions make him an ideal fit for the vibrant and dynamic environment of Emerald Isle. 

As Director of Planning, Mr. Seaberg will play a crucial role in Emerald Isle, overseeing land use policies, zoning regulations, and development initiatives. His vision aligns seamlessly with Emerald Isle's commitment to maintaining its unique coastal charm while embracing thoughtful and responsible growth.

"His expertise and passion for community planning will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and sustainable development of our beautiful town. Mr. Seaberg expressed his enthusiasm about joining the community, stating, "I am honored and excited to be part of Emerald Isle's future. I am committed to working collaboratively with residents, businesses, and local stakeholders to ensure thoughtful and inclusive planning that enhances the overall well-being of the community." 

Prior to joining the Town of Emerald Isle, Mr. Seaberg served 14 years as Town Manager for the Town of Cedar Point, 2 years as Swansboro Town Manager, 1 year at MCAS Cherry Point as their Interdisciplinary Community Planner. Most recently, he was serving as Community and Economic Development Manager for the City of New Bern. Combined, he has 22 years of governmental experience. 

Mr. Seaberg holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University, with a minor in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of the UNC School of Government Municipal Administration program. Married with one child, his family resides just across the bridge in Cape Carteret.
