The Emerald Isle Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of a participant who tragically passed away during this year’s event. Our entire organization, along with the Town of Emerald Isle and our local running community, is heartbroken by this loss. The safety and well-being of every runner, volunteer, and spectator is always our top priority.
A female half-marathon participant collapsed near the very end of her race. Emergency medical personnel already on scene responded immediately and began advanced life saving measures. These measures continued, however, she ultimately passed and was declared deceased. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no additional details will be released at this time.
